The Institution of Chinese Agricultural Civilization focuses on agricultural science and technology history, agricultural cultural heritage preservation, agro-ecological environment history, Chinese and foreign agricultural exchange history, digitalization of agricultural literature, and development strategy for agricultural science and technology as its main research areas. Presently, it is focusing on research topics such as “Chinese Agricultural Cultural Heritage Series”, “Chinese Crop History Series”, “History of China’s Modern Agriculture Series” and “Agro-ecological Environment History Series”.
Since the establishment of the Institution of Chinese Agricultural Civilization, several generations of scholars have been diligently pioneering. Their scientific research has achieved considerable results, including 613 volumes of excerpts on agricultural history, 680 volumes of local chronicles of agricultural history, and over 100 compiled and published research monographs on agricultural history. The institution has also reviewed, annotated and arranged 18 ancient agricultural books, edited 14 volumes of the Selected Works on Chinese Agricultural Heritage (Part I)class-A series, and published over 1000 academic essays on first and second level academic journals.
Among its published works, Chinese Agricultural History, Collated and Annotated Essential Techniques for the Welfare of the People (Qi Min Yao Shu),Collate and Annotated East Lu Wang Zhen’s Book of Agriculture (Dong Lu Wang Shi Nong Shu), Manuscript of the History of Chinese Agricultural Science and Technology, Traditional and Modern Agriculture in China, History of Chinese Agronomy and Water Conservation, A Comparative Study of Sino-American Agricultural Development, A Study of Southern Suzhou’s Peasant Economy in Old China, Catalogue of Ancient Chinese Agricultural Books, Entomology in 20th Century China, and A Study of Agricultural Development History in Western China have had far-reaching influence in academia. Since1987, they have won over 10 awards that are provincial-level or higher, including winning 1 third prize in National Scientific and Technological Progress, 2 first prizes in Technological Progress from the Ministry of Agriculture, 2 second prizes in the 1st Outstanding Social Science Achievements from the State Education Commission, 1 second prize of China’s Excellent Book Award, 1 Asia Pacific’s Honorary Book Award, 2 third prize in Outstanding Jiangsu Philosophy and Social Science Achievements, as well as 2 first prizes and 1 second prize for Quality Engineering and Outstanding Achievements in Jiangsu’s Social Science Application Research. In addition, five scholarly books have been translated into Japanese and English and have been published.
